Opaline Glass Pendant with Perforated Caramel Metal Shade designed by Bent Karlby for Fog & Mørup, Denmark, 1960s.
The lamp features a two-part construction with an opaline glass diffuser enclosed by a lacquered metal shade in warm caramel tones. Light is directed downward while also softly illuminating the glass section above, creating both task and ambient light. A characteristic of Karlby’s work for Fog & Mørup, which focused on indirect, atmospheric illumination.
Bent Karlby (1912–1998) was among the leading figures of Danish lighting design, known for his precise forms and use of color to shape light. Fog & Mørup, active from the early 20th century until the 1970s, became one of Scandinavia’s key manufacturers of modernist lighting, producing designs by Karlby alongside Jo Hammerborg and Sidse Werner.
Functional yet sculptural, this piece works equally well suspended over a dining table, in a hallway, or as a single focal light in a reading corner. A refined example of mid-century Scandinavian craftsmanship.
Excellent vintage condition, with light wear consistent with age.
