Adjustable “Snodo” table lamp designed by Sergio Mazza, Italy, circa 1970s.
The base and shade are executed in cast iron with a textured black lacquer. The stem is made of chromed metal, introducing a subtle reflection that accentuates the lamp’s curvature and balance. The shade interior is lined with a porcelain fitting and a hammered metal reflector, designed to amplify and diffuse the light softly. Three perforated openings on top provide ventilation, characteristic of Mazza’s attention to detail and functionality.
Sergio Mazza (b. 1931) was trained as an architect and emerged as one of Italy’s most influential post-war designers. In 1959 he co-founded Artemide with Giuseppe Ostuni, creating a range of luminaires that combined industrial production with architectural precision. His designs often explored the interaction of metal, glass, and proportion, resulting in objects that remain relevant for both modernist and contemporary interiors.
Ideal as a desk or reading lamp, or as an accent on a sideboard or console. Its directional shade provides focused task lighting with a soft, diffused quality.
