Modular Six-Panel Pendant Lamp, Murano Glass and Brass, 1970s.
This high-end pendant light is a signature example of Mid-Century Modern design, designed by Carlo Nason for the Austrian firm Kalmar in the 70s.
The lamp features a modular construction, utilizing a central brass frame from which six individual, leaf-shaped panels are suspended. Each panel is crafted from thick, hand-blown Murano glass, a key characteristic of Nason's work. Breaking from his family's traditional ornate styles in the 1960s, Nason (b. 1935) became a key figure in the period's avant-garde, pursuing a geometric and functional lighting aesthetic.
The piece embodies Nason’s progressive design philosophy, which successfully translated the ancient, artisanal techniques of Murano into the clean, geometric aesthetic of the Space Age.
