AfterMidnight sources, researches and restores original twentieth-century lighting in Antwerp. Below you will find practical information about availability, condition, electrical preparation, worldwide delivery, returns and rental. If your question is not answered here, please contact our team.
Do you ship vintage lighting internationally?
Yes. AfterMidnight sells and ships internationally. A shipping quotation may be available during checkout. For unusually large, fragile or valuable pieces, contact us for a tailored quotation before ordering.
How is shipping calculated?
Shipping depends on the destination, dimensions, weight, value and packing requirements of the lamp. Some quotations are calculated at checkout; other pieces require an individual quote. Contact us if no rate appears or if you would like to discuss combined delivery for several items.
How are fragile vintage lamps packed?
Each piece is assessed individually. Removable shades, glass diffusers and other vulnerable components may be packed separately within the shipment. Large or exceptionally fragile objects can require specialised packing or transport. We will discuss unusual requirements before dispatch.
Can I buy several examples of the same lamp?
Possibly. Our online store represents only part of our stock, and some pieces are available as pairs, sets or New Old Stock. If you need several identical or related lamps for an interior or professional project, contact AfterMidnight with the model, quantity and preferred timing.
What condition are the lamps in?
Condition varies because every object is vintage. Product pages describe significant wear, patina, repairs, replacements and restoration as accurately as possible. Natural signs of age, such as minor marks, oxidation or variation in finish, are part of an original object’s history and are not automatically defects. Additional detailed photographs and a condition report are available on request.
Are all lamps checked before sale?
Yes. Every lighting piece offered by AfterMidnight passes through our in-house atelier in Antwerp. Our lighting technicians inspect and clean each lamp and rewire it when needed using CE-marked electrical components. The precise work performed depends on the lamp’s condition and is not identical for every piece.
Can a lamp be prepared for use in the United States or Australia?
Our lamps can be used internationally. Lamps supplied with a plug are generally fitted with an EU plug; a suitable adapter can be used, or the plug can be replaced for the destination country. Lamps or components designed specifically for 220–240 V, such as certain transformers, may only be used on a compatible power supply and cannot be connected directly to every electrical network. Where this applies, we state it explicitly on the product page. Final installation or any electrical modification should be carried out or checked by a qualified local professional.
Can you fit a longer cable?
Yes, a longer cable can be useful for high ceilings, stairwells or low suspension above a dining table. Contact us before ordering or before the lamp is dispatched. Please note that customised or modified items may be excluded from returns, as explained in our return policy.
Do you preserve original components during restoration?
Yes, wherever their condition allows. Our aim is to retain the original design, finish and components rather than make a vintage lamp appear newly manufactured. When replacement or repair is necessary, we work to preserve the intended proportions, construction and lighting effect. Learn more about our atelier and approach.
How do you research the maker or designer of a lamp?
We compare labels, model numbers, dimensions, materials and construction with original manufacturer catalogues and period documentation. Attribution is based on the available evidence, and we avoid presenting an uncertain identification as fact. Explore our original catalogue archive.
Can I request more photographs or a condition report?
Yes. Contact us before purchasing if you would like close-ups, measurements, photographs of labels or wiring, or additional information about restoration and condition. This is especially recommended for international orders and rare collector pieces.
Can I visit the showroom?
Yes. Our showroom in the Antwerp area is available by appointment. Arrange your visit through our contact page so we can confirm availability and prepare the pieces you would like to see.
What is your return policy?
Private consumers who qualify under the applicable policy may notify us of withdrawal within 14 calendar days after receiving the goods. Returned items must meet the stated conditions and must not have been installed, used, modified or altered. Return shipping is normally at the customer’s expense. Customised items, gift cards and business-to-business purchases are excluded as described in the complete AfterMidnight return policy. Always consult the full policy before returning an item.
What should I do if an item arrives damaged or incorrect?
Notify AfterMidnight within 48 hours of receipt and include clear photographs of the outer packaging, shipping label, internal packing and damage or discrepancy. Keep all packaging while the transport claim is being assessed. Full instructions are provided in our return and transport-damage policy.
Are the lamps available for rental?
Yes. Selected pieces can be rented for film sets, photo shoots, exhibitions, weddings, pop-up shops and other temporary projects. Our stock extends beyond the pieces visible online. Read more about vintage lighting rental or contact us with dates, location, quantities and practical requirements.
Do you work with interior designers and trade clients?
Yes. We work with private collectors as well as interior architects, designers, galleries, hospitality projects, production teams and other professional clients. Contact us if you require sourcing, multiple pieces, documentation, project delivery or a formal quotation.
What does New Old Stock mean?
New Old Stock, often abbreviated to NOS, describes an older item that was never sold or used in the usual way and may still retain its original packaging, labels or protective materials. NOS does not necessarily mean completely free from age-related marks: storage can still affect metal, lacquer, plastic, wiring and packaging.
Are colours and finishes exactly as shown online?
We aim to photograph and describe every piece accurately, but screen settings, studio lighting, patina and reflective materials can affect the way colours appear. Request additional photographs before purchasing if a precise colour or finish is important for your project.
