Floor lamp by the Spanish manufacturer Metalarte, featuring an architectural ladder-style frame in white lacquered metal. The design consists of two parallel vertical supports joined by six horizontal rungs, rising from a weighted trapezoidal base. The fixture terminates in a rectangular, pivoting reflector housing a linear halogen bulb, protected by a textured glass diffuser for indirect upward illumination.
Designed by the collective Estudi Blanc, the Escala (meaning 'ladder' in Catalan) is an example of the high-tech aesthetic that emerged in Spanish lighting design during the 1980s. Metalarte utilized the versatility of halogen technology to create slender, geometric forms that interacted with the surrounding architecture.
Suited to placement against a wall or in a corner to provide powerful ambient uplighting. Good vintage condition. The white lacquer shows light surface wear and minor scuffing to the edges of the base and rungs, consistent with age and use.
